I know there are plenty of hobbies that build intelligence but I am even more interested in those that build the senses since our senses seem to dull as we age.

I’m new to C and C++ programming and I’ve learn them through books and online tutorials. But all the tutorials I’ve encountered only provide lessons that teaches us how to take inputs from the keyboard. Is there anyway to write a program that takes input from other I/O interfaces such as serial ports, parallel ports or usb? What are the knowledge that I need and the steps on learning that? I would be very grateful if anyone could provide me some links of the tutorials. Thank you very much.

I am in the mood to read some thrillers. Any suggestions on any books to read especially any by regular authors (not the big sellers like Michael Chrichton, but not excluding them either). Plus only adult literature as well, not books for teens or kids.

I want to be able to edit, add music and titles and also to burn a DVD. I am not technically blessed, so I do need software that is easy to use. A friend suggested I buy a ‘video digitizing package’ which will contain both hardware and software.

My mother’s eyesight has progressively become worse over the last couple of years due to illness. She’s a homebody, and can no longer drive so getting out is difficult. She is legally blind, but can still see to a degree. I want to find ways to keep her spirits up and her mind occupied but don’t know what kinds of hobbies or crafts would be easy for her to do?
